The former NBA professional Adreian Payne died at the age of 31. As the police station in Orange County confirmed, it was shot in Orlando, Florida.
According to the local authorities, a man named Lawrence Dority was arrested in the course of the shootout. There is an arrest warrant against him due to the first degree murder. Dority stayed at the crime scene and spoke to the police before he was brought to prison.
Payne was selected in 2014 in the NBA draft by the Atalanta Hawks. Just a few months later he switched to the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he played until 2017. This was followed by a short intermezzo at Orlando Magic before he went to Europe in 2018.
Among other things, he played for the Greek top club Panathinaikos Athens. The club wrote on Twitter: “We are shocked by the news of the regrettable loss of our ex-player. Our sincere condolences to the family of Adreian Payne.”

Payne had most recently played with Juventus Utena in Lithuania. On February 17th, players and clubs had agreed on a separation.
